Belleville, IL, August 26, 2009. The Belleville-based law firm Mathis, Marifian & Richter, Ltd. recently presented $1,000 scholarships to three local graduating seniors who have an interest in pursuing a legal career. The recipients include: Colin Artinger, Belleville East High School; Jeff Thomas Michael, Althoff Catholic High School; and Charlotte Young, Belleville West High School. The scholarships were presented on Tuesday, August 11, at a luncheon at the St. Clair Country Club hosted by MMR&G.

Patrick Mathis, shareholder of MMR, stated, “Each recipient of the law scholarship exemplified outstanding academic achievement and determination in their high school careers and I am sure they will demonstrate the same dedication in their pursuit toward earning a law degree. Were pleased to help support their goals and wish them the best in their future endeavors.”

The recipients were selected based on a number of qualifications outlined in an application that was offered to all high schools in St. Clair County. Applicants had to be a current high school senior, planning a career as an attorney, earning a GPA of 3.0 or higher, achieved an ACT score of at least 26 or SAT of at least 1180, ranked in the upper 25th percentile of the graduating class and involved in extracurricular activities. The selection process involved a comprehensive review of all applicants by two MMR&G attorneys, who weighed other factors such as their essays, high school achievements and teacher/school recommendations. Each of the chosen recipients met or exceeded the criteria.

As of the luncheon, the students were making final preparations before heading off to each of their respective schools. Colin Artinger and Jeff Thomas Michael will attend St. Louis University, and Charlotte Young will attend Knox College in Galesburg, Illinois.
