[Freeburg, IL, May 5, 2026] – The law firm of Mathis, Marifian & Richter, Ltd. is pleased to announce that Mira Plexico, an upcoming graduate of Freeburg Community High School and a resident of Smithton, Illinois, has been awarded a $3,000 scholarship to support her pursuit of a career in the legal field. The firm recognizes the legal profession as both a noble and demanding path—one that offers the opportunity to make a meaningful impact by serving clients and contributing to the greater good of society. Mira’s decision to continue her education and follow this path reflects her dedication, ambition, and commitment to upholding the principles of justice.
Mira Plexico will attend the University of Illinois beginning in Fall 2026. Her interest in the legal field was initially sparked by legal dramas and the Lincoln Lawyer novels, which introduced her to the complexities and character of the profession. That early curiosity grew into confidence under pressure and a strong respect for justice.
Through her involvement in Model United Nations, the American Legion Auxiliary Illini Girls State, and Saint Louis University School of Law’s Law and Advocacy Summer Program, Mira has strengthened her self-confidence and ability to think and act effectively. She is committed to becoming a skilled and persuasive communicator, growing her abilities in critical thinking, argumentation, and writing.
As Mira explains, “Although what I saw on television and read in books piqued my interest in law, it’s the real-world experiences I’ve had that have solidified my desire to pursue it as a career. Fundamentally, the law exists to make society more just and fair, and to improve the lives of all.”
Mathis, Marifian & Richter, Ltd. is proud to support young professionals in their pursuance of higher education and legal degrees. This scholarship program selects one eager student each year to encourage them to go after their dreams of going to law school. MM&R’s Law Career Scholarship is available to high school seniors each Spring.
