Starting July 1, 2022, through June 30, 2023, the State of Illinois is suspending the 1% grocery tax.

Retailers who currently charge the 1% grocery tax are to include the following note on each receipt or invoice:

“From July 1, 2022, through June 30, 2023, the State of Illinois sales tax on groceries is 0%.”

If a retailer cannot include such a notation on the receipts, it is required to post the statement on a sign that is clearly visible to customers and is at least 4 inches by 8 inches. The State will make such a sign available on its website in the near future.
